Our home group and morning men’s group have recently had conversations about the Enneagram. If the term is new to you, this is a remarkable model of the human psyche which helps us to see how people are so different from one another, but in very similar ways. The model traces its roots all the way back to Christian mystics in the 4th century, and saw a resurgence in use in the last century (particularly by Jesuit spiritual directors), but it is now exploding beyond the church and into wider society.

Enneagram literally means nine-sided figure, which refers to the diagram used to depict the model’s nine personality types. It’s a rich and nuanced model that I personally have found so useful as a tool for greater self-knowledge. Also, appreciating that there are many other perfectly valid ways of seeing and being in this world has done good things for my tolerance and understanding of other people!

From the people I’ve spoken to, there seems to be plenty of interest in the Enneagram at WMC, so I’ll look at setting up some sessions for those who are keen to find out more. Watch this space :)
