Members from churches all around Westville gathered together at Home Ground Church this week to pray for our community. There is something so healthy about Christians being together in prayer, notwithstanding our differences in tradition, practice and belief. As the psalmist says, "How wonderful, how beautiful, when brothers and sisters get along! It’s like the dew on Mount Hermon flowing down the slopes of Zion. Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing!" (Ps 133:1,3 MSG)
We prayed into four specific areas of shared concern:
1. the Westville Churches Counselling Centre - a joint project of the churches, based at Home Ground;
2. Vulindlela - a joint job creation and mentoring project based here at WMC;
3. ministry among those struggling with addiction in our community (numbers of churches are involved in this work and we have several recovery groups meeting weekly on our property too);
4. ministry to students and young adults in our community.
It was so helpful to be made aware of some of the needs beyond our immediate congregational situations and to be reminded that we will find Jesus at work in those contexts. Also, it is really good to be in a community where churches work together and there are warm relationships between leaders. A wonderful evening - we'll let you know when the next one is planned!
